About This Site
Hi, I’m Rebecca. Welcome to Tiny Planet Yum!

By now we all know that how we live and what we consume affects the world we live in. This blog chronicles my efforts to live a more sustainable lifestyle, even with all the temptations and limitations that surround me! I’m by no means perfectly green, but aim in the direction whenever possible. I hope this blog will help me in this goal.
In a society of mass consumerism, we’ve become inured to the over-processed, over-preserved, packaged and lackluster products that are offered to us as food. Our modern lifestyles demand convenience, and most people are now completely removed from the sources of their nutrition. It’s no accident that this distancing has paralleled the crumbling of community.
My hope is that my blog, in it’s own a small way, can help to guide me and others to restore that connection to sustenance, with an emphasis on seasonality, efficiency, and local resources. I believe if we all focussed more on where our foods came from, took time to lovingly prepare foods from whole ingredients, our health and our communities would benefit. I consider myself a slow food enthusiast, not only for the organic lifestyle that complements biodiversity and environmental conservation, but also for the preservation of our threatened foodways and agricultural traditions.
I’m lucky enough to live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I can easily walk and ride my bike to about anything I need (except commute to work, sadly). We also have a great selection of organic grocers, artisanal bakers and cheese makers, and several farmers markets. It’s fair to say that Ann Arbor is a town with above average green consciousness, having great recycling resources and amazing spots for obtaining pre-owned goods and clothing.

Please, join the conversation! Together, we can help each other live and consume more consciously. Whether through inventive reuse, ambitious DIY projects, exploring alternative energy sources, or preparing inspired meals from the best ingredients our locales offer.
